12 Days of Drinkmas: Margarita

12 Days of Drinkmas: Margarita

It's a week night (or as like to call them school nights) and sometimes a glass of wine just doesn't cut it.  So, Que the Tequila. Tequila has always been one of my go to alcohols. Nothing says Tequila like a classic Margarita, which brings us to day 5 of DRINKMAS!

Blended or over the rocks, original or flavored. Sooo many different ways to enjoy this classic cocktail. Salted rims are always a must in my book. Tip: Use cocktail salt or kosher salt, do not use regular table salt which can be over powering. Either way you drink your Margarita in my book they are all tasty.

Classic Margarita

Serves 1

  • 1 1/2 oz Tequila
  • 1 oz Triple sec, or orange liquor
  • 3/4 oz fresh lime juice
  • Kosher salt for the rims
  • Lime wedges, to garnish

Salt your glass rims.
In a shaker mix all ingredients together and add ice.
Pour over ice in your salt rimmed glass. Garnish with a lime wedge and enjoy!

The great thing about margaritas, they can be dressed up any which way. Add different types of fruit, fresh or juice and you have a brand new drink! In Hawaii we have a seasoning (because I don't know what else to call it), called li-hing mui. It is a combination between sweet and salty powder, we put that S**t on everything. From icees, to fruit to hint hint** MARGARITAS! If you ever go to Hawaii and they have different flavored margaritas, you will find a Li-hing mui margarita. YOU NEED TO GET IT!

This simple classic cocktail is perfect for something a little more than your (usual- we won't tell) glass of wine during the week. Try it out and let us know what you think!
