DIY Wedding Programs Hand Fans

DIY Wedding Programs Hand Fans

Hola, Party People! KK here—I was lucky enough to be a bridesmaid in one of my oldest (17 years, people) friend’s wedding earlier this month. I’ll share more on that later in a VIDEO with TY at the end of July. Stay tuned for that! We did a lot of DIY for this wedding, and one of the super easy things we made was their wedding programs.

Get this: They are also fans!

Also get this: They had fresh foliage attached.

Special thanks to the friends who helped carried out my design! I had a small army help complete about 150 of them. It’s totally doable on your own, but it does save a ton of time if you get your bridesmaids (or in my case, really really loving friends) to lend a hand.

What you’ll need:

Wedding Program Template on 8.5”x11” (I designed it and customized it to their wedding; COMMENT BELOW if you want tips on how to design a wedding program template)
Wrinkle free glue stick (We did 120 invites and used 6 glue sticks)
Jumbo wavy popsicle sticks
Pretty Twine
A Boxwood Plant (we also used fern and jasmine leaves, but boxwood trimmings held up the best)
Scissors
*Optional* (but highly recommended) Corner Rounder Punch

INSTRUCTIONS

Print off the number of programs you need on to 8.5” x 11” paper.

Fold all of them in half. I used my handy dandy Martha Stewart Scoring Board, and then folded the papers in half with a bone folder.

Open the folded pages up and glue the popsicle stick in place onto one side of the paper.

Apply glue around the outside edge of the paper and fold it over, pressing down to help the glue set.

Use this first one as a template to line up the popsicle stick on the rest of the programs to make them uniform.

Repeat steps 2-5 until all of the fans are all glued.
*OPTIONAL STEP*: Corner Round all the glued fans for a nice finishing touch. We did this for the wedding, but not the example photographed because our corner rounder is missing :-(

Trim off small pieces (about 3 or 4 inches) of Boxwood leaves until you have a nice pile going.

Place about 3 pieces of Boxwood trimmings where the paper meets the popsicle stick.

Wrap the trimmings to attach them to the program fan with about 6” of gold string.

Tie it off. Feel free to have fun with this part. You can leave a large bow to front for a whimsical look or you can knot and trim off excess like we did.

That’s it! Super simple way to keep your wedding guests informed and cool. We placed these in large baskets next to the wedding benches so people could take them as they got seated.

WP TIP: Attach the leaves as close to the ceremony as possible and store the programs in the fridge until they are needed.
